It’s Fourth of July weekend in the U.S. and people are celebrating freedom. At Razoo, we recognize that freedom can mean a thousand different things to a thousand different people, so we are promoting a number of giving opportunities on our homepage throughout July, which we’ve declared Freedom Month. However, because this is Independence Day, we want to take the time to recognize a cause supporting those who are fighting for our freedom every day, even as we speak.
Sounds for Soldiers, a project of the Icebox Radio Theater, is an initiative to support servicemen and women overseas. A group of music theater producers have prepared 10,000 CDs to share with U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to their Razoo page, “Sounds for Soldiers is a simple effort by the audio theater producers of Audiodramatalk.com to tell the people in harm’s way that we recognize their sacrifice, and are profoundly grateful.”
Here at Razoo we are honored to be able to help support Sounds for Soldiers and other projects like it, especially as we celebrate our independence as a nation and our liberties as individuals. Of course there are plenty of other causes fighting for freedoms in the world. International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that “secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression.” Deanna Culbreth is running 100 miles to raise funds and awareness for the Somaly Mam Foundation, a group that helps girls rescued from sexual slavery. The World Without Genocide raises crucial awareness about genocide happening in the world today, and how to stop it.
Thomas Jefferson once said, “I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.” It is our prerogative as individuals to choose whether we wish to help or not, but that freedom comes at a price and it is something every man, woman and child should have access to. Join us in celebrating the freedom to give generously.
